Back in March 2011 a former roommate asked me to take some photos of the Sexual Minorities Archive in Northampton, MA. I am across the board pro-archive, and he had told me that this dude had been storing decades’ worth of historical material on the LGBT movement in his home, so I figured it would be interesting.

The archive is run by a transgender fella named Bet, who had been searching for a formal home for the material for years. Bookshelves, storage units and filing cabinets take up all the available space in his house, filled with photographs, buttons, T-shirts, correspondence, pornography, posters and records. It’s quite fascinating to see it all packed in there.

I had shot these photos as a favor for them to post on their website, but it seems they haven’t put one together yet, though they did post them on their Facebook page.

Despite some initial skepticism, I’m starting to come around to Instagram after playing with it using the iPhone I got for work. The overuse of lo-fi filters among smartphone users had been a turn-off for me, but I’m certainly not a good enough photog to get snobby.

Besides, I’ve seen fantastic work from pros using Instagram and its cousin, Hipstamatic.

Caught the last night of Yo La Tengo’s Hanukkah concerts at Maxwell’s in Hoboken last night, thanks to my friend Nic and his friend’s enthusiastic ticket-purchasing.

No real photos, because it was dark and full of tall people, and the rain was so bad I left my SLR tucked away at home. But besides a few sonic haymakers to my eardrums, it was a pretty great show.
